The end-users from the nuclear industry are one of the most important target audiences of the ADVISE dissemination activities, as the adoption of the project results by the industry is crucial to ensure a strong impact on nuclear power in Europe.
To ensure the industrial applicability of methods and tools developed in ADVISE, an Industrial Advisory Board (IAB) will be set up at project start, which aim will be to assess ADVISE results during and by the end of the project.
This group comprises experts from the project consortium (EDF, INTERCONTROLE, UJV), as well as external advisors (EPRI, Framatome, Rolls-Royce and Westinghouse Germany). As these industrial representatives will be involved early in the project research, they will also have a more in-depth knowledge of the ADVISE results, which will allow them to disseminate results within their organisations.
The ADVISE IAB represents the entire nuclear value chain: EDF operates the largest nuclear fleet in the world, with 58 reactors in operation and a combined experience of 1300 reactor years; Framatome and Westinghouse provide plants and plants components, nuclear fuel, and associated plant services, including in service inspection; UJV as an in service inspection provider brings an additional experience with Russian VVER-type reactors and finally EPRI brings in the results of its parallel research project on cast austenitic stainless steel, which covers both ultrasonic inspection and signal processing. The composition of the IAB may be completed during the project in case the partners feel that additional expertise is required.
NUGENIA is an association dedicated to the research and development of nuclear fission technologies, with a focus on Generation II and III nuclear plants. It aims to foster collaboration between industry, SMEs, research organisations, academia and technical safety organisations, to build knowledge and expertise and to generate R&D results with added value for the nuclear community. NUGENIA is therefore an excellent channel to support the dissemination of the ADVISE results. In addition, several of ADVISE partners and members of its Advisory Board are Members of NUGENIA, and this will facilitate the presentation of the ADVISE achievements to other members of NUGENIA. ADVISE will take part to the NUGENIA events – if possible by means of presentations or combined workshops – so as to ensure communication with as many NUGENIA partners as possible.
ADVISE obtained the NUGENIA label on 28 August 2016 (certificate number 2016NUG0027).
The SNETP brings together some 100 members from 21 European countries, including all major nuclear industrial and research players. It was formally launched in 2007 and represents a major effort to:
To maximise the impact, the ADVISE partners will invest significant efforts into disseminating, exploiting and communicating results, in particular by participating in SNETP annual conferences.
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is a United Nations organisation set up in 1957 as the world's centre for cooperation in the nuclear field. The agency works with its member states (168, as of February 2016) and multiple partners worldwide to promote the safe, secure and peaceful use of nuclear technologies.
To create synergies and receive external inputs, ADVISE will co-organise the project workshop and some of the consortium meetings with other projects funded under the H2020 Euratom call NFRP-2016-2017-1, in particular with the NOMAD project. ADVISE will also invite representatives from linked Euratom funded projects to the training school.

ADVISE and NOMAD are two projects funded under the same H2020 Euratom call NFRP-2016-2017-1 “Continually improving safety and reliability of Generation II and III reactors” and both have received the NUGENIA label from the Nuclear Generation II & III Association. Both projects aim to fulfil nuclear safety requirements for the assessment of long-term operation, and they will both use ultrasonic-based methods for characterising different kinds of materials, components and degradation phenomena at microstructural and macrostructural level.
Indeed, the NOMAD project aims to assess in-situ the material degradation induced by neutron irradiation in RPV steels using a multi-parameter non-destructive tool. In order to reach these goals, multiple non-destructive evaluation (NDE) methods will be applied to different scales of samples in neutron-irradiated condition. The results will be compared and combined across methods, samples and degradation parameters in order to define a hybrid approach and finally demonstrate it in a modular way.
As they are obvious common grounds, potential synergies can be created between the projects, in particular for the dissemination and training activities. Since NOMAD started three months earlier, a final workshop would need some careful scheduling to allow both projects to accommodate for the different end of project dates. In this context, commonly organised mid-term and final project workshops in terms of joint scientific sessions might be pertinent cluster activities for 2019 and 2021.
